The Scallop Shell with its undulating like surface and border lends itself so well to exhibiting the cypress wood with its beautiful grain and chestnut like color. Shell and base are sculptured from a single piece of the ancient cypress to show the outside of the tree and the annual growth rings as well as the wood itself.

The traditional use of the scallop shell as an accent on a special piece of furniture and other objects along with the water loving ancient cypress wood make a wonderful combination for unique wooden art.

The Scallop Shell can be special ordered according to your specific size.
Price: starting at $4,000.00 (according to size)

A miniature scallop shell Price $500.00

Picture Frames

The picture frames are a big hit among artist and framers alike.  They are also made with the outside of the tree showing (unless otherwise specified) making each a one-of-a-kind piece of art themselves.  Most are lightly pickled to enhance the weathered surface-but can be made without.  They can be ordered to your specific size.  Prices vary according to size.

Elaine Tanner

Elaine Tanner creates beautiful pine needle baskets from long needle pine straw, black walnut slices, and the ancient cypress wood. Local artists are commissioned to do the hand drawn scenes on the wood that is used for the base of the baskets. After completion of the coiling of the basket, a coat of beeswax is applied, making the basket very durable and long lasting.

Baskets range in price from $150 - $400.

John Tanner

Ancient Cypress turkey calls are individually hand-crafted by artisan John Tanner with artwork by Johnette Pope McCutchen. Box of Time is a limited edition collector series being created to show the beauty of the ancient wood and also stimulate the imagination of turkey call collectors. These calls, when gently stroked by their paddles, produce a harmonic vibration that you can actually feel in your hands. The design of the call with its curved sides produces multiple true turkey calling sounds on each surface. It is hard to believe that all of this beauty and sound quality comes from a tree that was living and growing over 45,000 years ago. One can only wonder what the wild turkey looked like back then and how he spent his daily life.

The Palmetto Series limited edition dulcimer gets its name from the sound holes: one is the state outline and the other the crescent that appears on the S.C. state flag. The sound box (top, bottom and sides) is crafted from ancient cypress. The fret board is hard maple. The peg head and tail piece are layered from walnut and maple. This combination of woods gives these dulcimers a nice bright sound. The dulcimers are finished with several applications of tung oil. The nut and saddle are crafted from bone. The tuners are Grover Geared Banjo pegs. These dulcimers are tuned to D-a-dd.

With the exception of the first two, the dulcimers will be built to order. Prices range from $425 on up depending on the mix of woods and type tuning machine used.
